US$2bn Port Development in Jakarta, Indonesia

The primary objective of the studies was to establish the feasibility of a major container terminal development at Kalibaru, adjacent to and within the existing boundaries of the Port of Tanjung Priok. Led by DWA, a team established the feasibility of the development through studies in the following areas:

Traffic Forecast, Competition Assessment and Tariff Forecast

Technical Assessment of the site, initial design options and detailed operational planning

Development of a Strategic Business Model for the development

Assessment of the financial performance of a development and how the finance required could be raised

DWA identified that the initial scale of the development was inadequate to support the economy of Java and that a more ambitious development was required. The team planned for potential expansion up to 10m TEU with additional cargo types. The development is now proceeding through to design, construction and operation; the intention being to bring the first new berth into operation in 2014.
