The aim of the project was to improve ferry and other transport on the Sierra Leone River. The river provides a key transport artery from the capital city to its international airport and also provides access into a broad range of other inland parts of the country. The projects was extended to consider the potential to use maritime transport as a method of supporting urban transport in Freetown the capital.
